During my 2nd grade student teaching I was taught how to use the four-square method to teach writing.  After learning about it and having my students use a four-square organizer in their memoir writing, I found it to be very helpful.  This method provided a visual framework that assisted students with formulating ideas in an organized manner when writing. It made writing a five sentence paragraph a breeze!

I have included examples of students’ work.  The students simply completed a four-square for each paragraph in their memoir and then put them all together for their final draft.

Also, I have included an example of a completed of a four-square that a student of mine wrote about her fall break.

Here are a few examples of student work from a math unit I taught on fractions.  The students really enjoyed these activities!
